Launch, Land and Places

Use a shared place when one exists, or save your own water access point.

One place, two possible roles

An access point is a saved place where you can enter or leave the water, such as Silos. Launch is the access point you used to enter on a particular ride. Land is where you left. The same access point can serve either role, or both.

An area, called a Location in some parts of Foil Run, is a broader venue such as Rufus. It groups rides whose routes pass through it. Belonging to Rufus does not tell us which beach you used.

Set the places on a ride

On Overview, tap the place name beside the map’s zoom buttons. If nothing is named, look for Add place. On narrow screens this control may show only a pin. You can also edit places from a saved ride’s details in Logbook.

Choose a personal or public access point for Launch or Land, then save. Choosing a point changes that role on this ride only. When the ride’s start and finish are more than 500 m apart, both fields appear. For a shorter ride, use Set a different landing. An already assigned Land stays visible.

To create an access point, give it a name and move its pin to the actual water access. The initial pin comes from the recording’s start or finish, which might be in a car park. The new point is personal and is created when you save the ride.

Edit a saved place

For a personal access point, Edit changes the reusable place. A rename can update several rides and plans. A pin or matching-circle change can match other unassigned rides. Review shows the effect before you apply it. These reviewed changes save immediately.

The small matching circle helps recognize recordings near an access point. It starts at 500 m and can be adjusted. It is separate from an area’s larger circle. Moving an access point does not move your recorded track, and trimming a ride does not move the saved access point.

Your Places manages the same access points and areas. Downwinder plans choose a Launch and Land from these points. Courses use a broad area for organization.

Personal and public

Personal access points belong to your account. Public access points are reviewed shared places you can select for a ride. Operators can make a public copy of a personal point after reviewing its name and map position. The personal original and its existing ride links stay unchanged.

You do not need to give a public place your own name. Use its shared name and pin as they are. If a public access point or area needs a better name or map position, open it in Your Places and choose Suggest a correction.

Sending a suggestion saves it for review. It does not change the shared place, create a personal copy, or change the places on your rides. Your suggestion includes the proposed change and optional explanation, not your recordings. Corrections to an area’s extent can be described in the explanation.
